It’s a John Waters weekend
Don’t let the suave mustache, natty suits and Tony Awards for “Hairspray” fool you. John Waters is a degenerate. And for the next four days, you have several opportunites to witness the Waters effect for yourself.
Tonight (Friday) and Saturday at midnight, the Tivoli’s Reel Late film series presents Waters’ signature film, “Pink Flamingos,” a comedy about a trailer-trashy transvestite (Divine) who will stoop to anything to win the title of “filthiest person alive.” You’ll never look at a poodle or a chicken the same way again.
On Saturday, Waters will mingle with the hypnotized high-brows lining up for the new exhibit of his movie-themed photographs at Laumeier Sculpture Park in Sunset Hills.
On Sunday I advise you to go to church.
Finally, on Monday evening, Waters will present his one-man show, “This Filthy World,” at the Sheldon Concert Hall in midtown St. Louis. Expect to get an earful of his self-described “crackpot” philosophy, which celebrates all things tasteless, from serial-killer kitsch to the crab cakes of his native Baltimore.
Let’s hope this nemesis catches his plane on Tuesday before he decides that St. Louis is his kind of town.
