“Slumdog,” “Streetballers” clean up at SLIFF
The people and pundits have spoken. The big winners at the 17th annual St. Louis International Film Festival were announced at the closing night party Sunday at Blueberry Hill.
The best-in-fest award from the St. Louis Film Critics group went to “Slumdog Millionaire,” Danny Boyle’s crowd-pleaser about a teen from Mumbai who strikes it big on an Indian quiz show. That movie also won the audience-choice award as the best international feature film and is being widely touted as an Oscar contender.
The audience-choice award for best overall film went to “Streetballers,” Matthew Krentz’ debut movie about two St. Louisans competing in a high-stakes basketball league. Chris Clark, managing and artistic director for the festival, announced that “Streetballers” was the highest scoring movie in the history of the event.
Clark also said that, pending a final double-check, overall attendance for the festival may have set a record as well.
