George Clooney to shoot a movie in St. Louis?

Word on the street is that George Clooney will be shooting his new movie in St. Louis for five weeks starting Jan. 5.

“Up in the Air” is a timely comedy from Jason Reitman (”Juno”) about a corporate terminator who piles up frequent-flyer miles while firing people. Not surprisingly, much of the action will be shot at the sparesly populated Lambert International Airport. Lambert is one of the few places in St. Louis that seems to be benefiting from the economic downturn–it was also a shooting site for the Tim Robbin military-homecoming dramedy “The Lucky Ones” and the upcoming thriller “The Informant” from Clooney’s pals Matt Damon and Steven Soderbergh. Maybe Matt and Steven liked what they saw here and put a bug in Clooney’s ear.

For the record, I like Clooney and think he is a stand-up guy. Raised in greater Cincinnati, he is the only star I’ve ever interviewed who called me directly instead of having a flunkie dial the phone. I admire his self-mocking attitude toward his celebrity, and I expect that if he comes here, he will spread good cheer wherever he goes.

Stay tuned.

Joe,
George Clooney shooting a flick here…wow…that’s quite the step up from Jessica Alba, huh…

For the record: I’d say that Clooney was one of the worst actors to come down the pike. He might as well lip synch to top it off. His acting is horrendous and I can’t name a single film of his that even approaches being moderately interesting. He’s a crushing bore.

Second Tom: Actually, Clooney doesn’t pose and talk about himself. That’s what’s refreshing about him.

For the Record: Clooney’s got an Oscar for his acting in a film called “Syriana.” Others that are “moderately interesting” for film fans: “Burn After Reading,” “Michael Clayton” (which garnered him another Oscar nomination), “Good Night and Good Luck” (ditto), “O Brother Where Art Thou,” “Three Kings” and “The Thin Red Line.”

Sheesh, some people are such haters.

George Clooney is one of those few celebrities that I can respect for his activism, not just for being an actor, director, and producer. He could’ve gone down the abyss after that awful “Batman and Robin” years ago, but he has made several good turns in front and behind the camera as Joe Williams mentioned, and has taken some commercial risks in movies that most actors fear to thread. I hope he likes St. Louis for the next few weeks!

Am I the only person thrilled that George is shooting a movie here??? I have been a fan since his ER days. I agree with Joe that George has made some very entertaining films, but I like that he seems like a nice normal guy. Our birthdays are on the same day, so I am going to use that as my opening line when I see him on the set!

I love the Clooney and think St. Louis should be PROUD that he is shooting a movie there. It’s not like St. Louis couldn’t use the publicity or anything… duh! If anything it makes more movie makers go, “Ohhhh, St. Louis… yeah- let’s shoot there, too- George Clooney did it.”
I love Clooney because he seems like a really good guy… and if anything… self-depricating- not the opposite. I met him two summers ago in Chicago and he could not have been more pleasant and gracious and well… hunky. :) He took time out to speak to everyone and sign everything in sight. Name ANY big star that would do that these days. The man knows where his bread and butter comes from. But even hunkiness aside- he’s still just a good guy. :)

What i dont understand is why people are so against George. To that ONE guy who thinks he is talking about himself so much, George clooney is the HOTTEST 40yr old man that teenagers drool over. He is a sex icon and a Oscar winner! So…. to everyone who is jealous

SHUT UP! K thanks,
OH i love GEORGE ;]

How do you try to become an extra? Where do you go, how does it work?

I am thinking that having a movie filmed in Saint Louis certainly will not hurt our economy. Perhaps people should focus on the bright side of this. Many so called American films are made in Canada now not even in America when we could use all the economic boost we can get, and yes I enjoy Canada have gone there several times but not the point. I would not comment on a celebrity personally as I have no way of knowing anything about them and am not a big tabloid fan.
