Think you oughta be in pictures?

On Jan. 24 and 25, producers will be recruiting extras for the new movie “Up In the Air,” starring George Clooney, to be filmed around St. Louis in March and April. It is expected that up to 2,100 adults will be chosen for the minimum-wage gig.

The casting call will take place at the Crestwood Court Mall on Watson Road. The hours are Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Further details and a downloadable application form are available from the Missouri Film Commission website at www.mofilm.org.

Applicants should bring the form, a recent color snapshot and a pen. No acting experience or special clothing is necessary, but applicants must be over 18.

Joni Tackette, the St. Louis-based casting director, said that successful applicants will be notified in February. She said that those who are chosen will earn $56.40 for an eight-hour day and that overtime is likely.

Tackette cautioned that being a movie extra can be tedious. “It’s like jury duty, but with a chance to be on camera,” she said.

Much of the shooting will take place at Lambert St. Louis International Airport.

In “Up in the Air,” Clooney plays a man who travels around the country to terminate corporate employees. The director is Jason Reitman, whose previous film was the Oscar-nominated comedy “Juno.”

$56.40 a day to do nothing? Sounds pretty good to me….I’ll sign up.

I could play the conservative guy actually working for a living…and paying more than my fair share of taxes to help spread the wealth.

“I could play the conservative guy”

You mean the corrupt moron with a severe case of unwarranted self love?

I was an extra in a movie once. It is VERY boring. You do get to see the side of my face briefly. An, no, the camera didn’t break. :^)

In my opinion, there should be at least 16 year olds that can also try out for the extra part. Teens and even younger have played great roles. Like for instance, the little boy in Inside Man. He was way younger than 16 and he was an extra and look how good he played in that movie.

$56.00 for an eight hour day ??? Are you kidding me ??? These movies make how many hundreds of millions of dollars ??? It so nice to see extras being treated as extra people on the planet, not worth more than 56.00 for a very tedious job helping to make someone else look human, that’s swell, what a wonderful world …………
