“Avatar” sneak preview crashes Web site, but locals shouldn’t bother
On Friday, selected IMAX theaters across the country will be showing a 20-minute teaser for James Cameron’s 3-D sci-fi fantasy “Avatar.” Starting Monday, fans could register for tickets at avatarmovie.com. So many people responded, that the site temporarily crashed.
But get this: Although the Kansas City-based AMC Theatres chain is participating in the promotion, none of the local AMC (or Wehrenberg) theaters are listed on the Web site. So if you want to see the teaser, you’ll have to pick a theater from the list in K.C., Chicago or Indianapolis and hope that you get through to the seat-selection page.
Me, I’d rather go see “District 9″ at the Skyview in Belleville. I’m not driving 300 miles for anything but a Beatles reunion.
“Avatar” opens worldwide on Dec. 18.

There are so many bogus “leaked footage” clips on youtube I gave up searching. Thanks for the info. I’d drive 3 miles to see ‘Beatlemania’.
