Is trailer for Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” deja vu?
Talk about bad timing. Michael Moore is set to release his latest documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” just as America has closed the book on the movie’s villain–U.S. president #43–and turned its attention to health care. That was the subject of Moore’s previous movie, “Sicko.”
If the Cash For Clunkers program had allowed Moore to buy a time machine. I bet he would have gone back a couple years and reversed the order of the movies’ release dates. “Sicko” is a movie whose arguments cry out to be reintroduced, while the anti-Wall Street sentiment of “Capitalism” has a me-too quality that isn’t likely to rouse the dispossessed masses. Especially since Moore’s tactics still involve pestering hapless security guards and p.r. flaks at corporations whose CEOs couldn’t care less about the portly pest in the lobby. Enough already with the staged ambushes, Mike.

I’ve respected all of Moore’s movies. He employs independent researchers to keep his facts straight (notwithstanding the complaints emanating from the corporate noise machines), and he usually manages to pull some heart strings. So I suspect that this new movie will contain some inconvenient truths and pleasant surprises. But the biggest surprise would be if Moore stopped clowning around and shooting at the usual soft targets. He needs to take a hard look at some of the people and institutions that are duping his fans. A truly fearless filmmaker would start with president #44.
“Capitalism: A Love Story” opens in selected cities on Sept. 23.

You have nothing but respect for his movies? I have actually watched the fiction that he creates. You say he keeps his facts staight? He doesn’t even have that many facts, and the ones he has are usually completely made up. He then goes to use old sound bites that have nothing to do with the topic to illustrate his points. He is a fraud and has done more to promote disinformation than any republican pundit. But, I understand that this is the Post Dispatch and you have to tow the liberal line and praise him or else you might be out of a job.
