Producers named for next Oscar telecast; expect more music
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has finally chosen a production team for the next Oscar telecast, scheduled for Hollywood on March 7.
If the name Adam Shankman means anything to you, you’re either a fan of the movie musical “Hairspray” (which he directed) or of the reality show “So You Think You Can Dance,” on which he’s been a judge. Shankman’s producing partner onb Oscar night will be Bill Mechanic, a behind-the-scenes type who was an executive producer on the animated “Coraline.”
Mechanic and Shankman replace Larry Mark and honorary St. Louis Bill Condon. That team brought a showbiz razzle-dazzle to last year’s ceremony; but this year they are busy making movies. Shankman and Mechanic are thought to be similarly inclined, and some at the Academy are hoping that light-footed Hugh Jackman will return as host. Others are reportedly pushing for Tom Hanks.
Me, I think there’s ratings potential in a “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” theme, with guest host Balloon Boy.

One of the all time great directors. I’m looking forward to the show!
