Screening Wedensday night at 7 at the Tivoli is a documentary that puts the festive in the St. Louis International Film Festival. “Pop Star on Ice” is a glittering portrait of Johnny Weir, the three time U.S. men’s figure skating champion.

As one commentator says, Weir is just what the sport needed now, a charismatic virtuso who transcends gender and even natonality. Weir is campy and quotable, with a particular fondness for all things Russian. (He’s been known to wear Soviet warm-up suits over his flamboyantly androgynous costumes.)

But Weir backs up his controversal behavior with dazzling performances.

Here’s a trailer for the film:

I’d LOVE to see this, but I don’t suppose there will be any screenings in Europe… oh well, I’ll just have to buy it on DVD when it comes out (and it HAS to!).
