The latest box office totals say that the backstage documentary “Michael jackson’s This is It” has reaped $23 million since opening. That’s not bad, but it’s doesn’t beat the American opening-weekend record for a performance movie, $31 million, set by “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” in 2008. And Hannah did it in just three days, while Michael’s movie opened on a Wednesday, giving it two extra days to build up speed.

On the other hand, Hannah’s audience paid a premium to watch the movie in 3-D.

As usual, we have to go to the international judges to settle the dispute. Jackson remains a thriller overseas, where Miley’s hopes for a box-office bonanza suffered an achy-breaky heart. Michael’s worldwide tally is already $103 million, which means his movie has moonwalked over Hannah’s final global gross. And the King of Pop surely has legs that will keep the movie running through Thanksgiving. So Jackson’s fans can tell that country-girl pretender to the throne to beat it.

One comment

Hey, Hannah Montana is a very talented young lady, but you’re kidding or fooling yourself if you think she’ll accomplish what Michael Jackson has done. Come on now. When he was her age, MJ was on his way to the top. Hannah, is just another teen pop star that has much potential. That’s it for now.
