Triple threat Haskins ranked No. 7 in the world
St. Louis native Sarah Haskins has had a busy November, finishing on the podium in two Olympic-distance triathlons, which consist of a 1,500 meter swim, 40K bike and 10K run.
She started the month by finishing third at the Cancun World Cup on Nov. 6, which meant she was in seventh place in the World Cup rankings. Her goal for the season was top ten, so job well done, Sarah. She finished the race, held in choppy waters and windy conditions, in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 37 seconds, 15 seconds behind winner Julie Ertel. She looks pretty happy in that podium picture on the far right.
She finished second to Ertel last weekend at the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island, and earned $4,750.
Haskins will rest _ what passes for rest for an elite athlete would put most of us in bed for a week _ and begin her quest for an Olympic berth in earnest at the start of the year. She has two chances to qualify: the Hawaii world cup event in April and the Des Moines event in June.
She does a good job of keeping fans up to date on her web site. It’s worth a look.
