Gov. Blunt to run Go! marathon relay
You may not agree with the politics of Gov. Matt Blunt, but it’s hard to criticize him for his stance on physical fitness. The Governor not only talks the talk and walks the walk, he runs the run.
For the second successive year, Blunt will run in the Go! St. Louis Marathon Relay. The event features teams of four, each of whom runs approximately one-quarter of the 26.2-mile marathon course. He will team with John Russell and Rich Chrismer, deputy chiefs of staff, and Mary Craven, executive assistant to first lady Melanie Blunt.
The governor’s team finished second last year in the corporate co-ed division in a time of 3 hours 29 minutes 32 seconds, a little less than eight minutes a mile, and in the top 10 percent of all relay teams.
The relay course is identical to the indivudual marathon course. Check out the narrated video with tips from some of the area’s best marathoners.

This will be my 7th full marathon and my 6th state. I haven’t seen any other race I’ve run provide such a detailed video example of what runners will see on the course. Thanks very much for the effort. For someone who is travelling from a few states away and not very familar with St. Louis city streets, this was very helpful.
The one thing that doesn’t show up as well on the course video as it does in the elevation chart is how hilly the course is, particularly Miles 14 to 20. There’s also a tough hill about Mile 23, so make sure you save something, or at least, are prepared for the last push.
Lead by example. Nice work Blunt. I like the firefighters vs. the police relay teams too.
