Halfs are getting fuller

With less than two weeks before the Go! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend, it’s no surprise that the half-marathon, scheduled for April 6, is nearing its maximum of 10,000 participants. The growth in popularity of the half-marathon, 13.1 miles, is part of a national trend. Here is a list of the largest half-marathons in the country in 2007, courtesy of Running USA, based on the number of finishers with chip timing.

1. 29,209: OneAmerica 500 Festival MiniMarathon, Indianapolis

2. 20,296: P.F. Chang’s Rock n Roll Arizona

3. 19,431: Country Music, Nashville

4. 17,045: Rock n Roll, Virginia Beach

5. 12,412: Walt Disney World, Orlando, Fla.

6. 12,183: Nike Women’s, San Francisco, Calif.

7. 11,647: Philadelphia Distance Run

8. 10,593: Disneyland, Anaheim, Calif.

9. 10,121: Banco Popular, Chicago

10. 9,927: NYC presented by Nike
