Missourians take on the world

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Christian Cantwell of Columbia became only the second shot putter to win two World indoor titles with a toss of 21.77 meters _ that’s 71 feet 5 1/4 inches _ in the world indoor track championships in Valencia, Spain last weekend. Cantwell also won the indoor world title in 2004. His teammate, Reese Hoffa, finished second.

“There is nobody in the world right now that can compete with us (Americans) in the shot,” Cantwell told reporters in Valencia. “We’re always expected to win.”

Berkeley High’s Michael Rodgers finished fourth in the 60-meter dash, in 6.57 seconds, behind winner Olusoji Fasuba of Nigeria, in 6.51.
