Another St. Louisan becomes people’s champ in Boston

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Stephanie Hood of Elsah, Ill., was the 10th woman to cross the line in the Boston Marathon. Check out the official web site, and you’ll see that the organizers don’t have an official link to more information about her, meaning she wasn’t included among the favorites.

Hood, a member of Big River Running, finished in 2:44:44, almost 20 minutes behind winner Dire Tune. Hood also crushed the field in the St. Patrick’s Day 5-mile run, finishing in 27 minutes and change, beating her nearest competitor by almost 2 minutes.

Hood is a native of Victoria, British Columbia, and has maintained her Canadian citizenship though she’s lived in the area since attending Principia College. She finds herself in a position similar to Zac Freudenburg last year. A native of Belleville and Ph.D candidate at Washington University, Freudenburg finished 19th at the Boston Marathon last year.

Great news. I hope you get a couple paragraphs in the newspaper to give her credit. That’s an awesome result. Considering the elite field it’s a “cinderella” story. I’m going to look for her on my tape of the Boston Marathon when I get home.

I’m Stephie’s sister-in-law to be, and she is awesome! Thanks for taking note of her in your blog!

She certainly will be one to watch, it’s worth noting that this was only Stephie’s 2nd marathon ever.

Steph was really impressive in person when I saw her results at the St. Pat’s Run. She impressed me because she seemed fun-loving, energetic and seemed to truly have fun running. I predict I’ll enjoy covering any race she decides to run.
