Follow Olympic triathlon trials online
You can get live updates of the St. Louisan Sarah Haskins and the other athletes competing for a spot on the Olympic team Saturday at slowtwitch.com, which will provide live updates. Coverage of the women’s race begins at noon. Coverage of the men’s race starts at 2:30 p.m.
USA Triathlon has three qualifying events for the olympics. The first was in Beijing last September, when Jarrod Shoemaker and Laura Bennett earned the first spots as the top Americans in the Olympic shakedown race.
The Olympic Trials on Saturday will give the top U.S. man and woman the next spots.
The final man and woman will be selected after the June 22 Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines. Those remaining slots will be rewarded based on a points system taking into account the best two races for each athlete still in the running.
