Celebrate Girls on the Run
Kathleen Nelson
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

For the past 10 weeks, girls in grades 3 through 8 have gathered to run and learn through Girls on the Run. They have built up their stamina to the point that they will celebrate with the Energizer Wondergirl 5K tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Tower Grove Park.

The physical exercise is just one part of the program. They also have built their  self-esteem on the way. The results are more difficult to quantify than a finishing time in a race. But the skills they have learned could last a lifetime.

Congratulations to Jill Indovino,  Holly Boeger and Denise Daab, who head the program that has spread to 24 elementary and middle schools i n the area.  Congratulations to their volunteer coaches and mentors. But hats off to the girls. The running and the values your coaches have shared can last a lifetime. Treasure the gift.

It’s not too late to join the celebration. Race day registration is $25 per person, $60 per family of four. Call 314-862-6266 for more information, or check the group’s web site.
