Cherry, 180 were ripe for pickin’ victories

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

These items fell through the cracks after vacation week. Sorry about that. But let’s get them out there and congratulate them most belatedly:

Brandon Cherry, a graduate of St. Charles West, won the 27th annual Capital Challenge 5K, crossing the line in front of congressmen, senators, cabinet members and a lot of other Beltway Bigwigs, in 15 minutes 42 seconds. After leaving the Warriors, West attended the University of Kansas and now works for the Federal Energy Regulatory Agency.
A total of 39 members of Congress entered the race. Finishing first was Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn, in 18:40.
Not bad for a 59-year-old guy. Rep. Jean Schmidt, D-Ohio, won the women’s House racein 22:50. Top senator was John Ensign, R-Nev., in 19:34.
Here are the complete results and coverage.

The 180 Energy Runners had a strong team win the the Rockford Marathon Relay. Nathan Pepper, Zac Freudenburg, Dusty Lopez and Adam White finished in 2:24:47, about 12 minutes ahead of overall marathon Ben Schneider.
St. Louisan John Conroy, 43, won the master’s division of the half-marathon in 1:22:33.

Way Funny - looks like the house moves faster than the senate

I think most of these guys on the relay team are very fast - 2:24:47 is fast, but kind of slow for these guys. I think - still - first is first.

House members tend to be younger than the folks in the Senate. The 180 guys might be training for something else. They’re running somewhere every weekend, so this might be a stepping stone for another race.
