Big River men finish fifth in track and field club nationals
On the strength of distance events, Big River Running finished fifth in the men’s division of the USA Track and Field National Club Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Olathe, Kan.
A shoutout to their cross-state rivals, the Kansas City Smoke, which took first overall with 146 points. Big River collected 69.5 points.
Big River shined in the steeplechase, in which Adam MacDowell and Brian Whitehead finshed first and second. MacDowell crossed the line in 9:33.86, Whitehead in 9:50.33. The team also finished 1-2 in the 1,500. Jeremy Doherty crossed the line first in 3:59.87, followed by Ben Rosario in 4:00.38.
Rosario won the 5,000 meters in 15:17.27, and the medley relay team of Doherty, Rosario, Carter Snow and Dominique Jones finished first in the medley relay in 10:16.92.
Other team performances of note:
Karl Gilpin, 2nd in the 10,000, 31:42.27. Gilpin won the GO! marathon here in April.
Jones, 18th in the 100 meters, 11.37 seconds; 20th in the 200, 22.75
Snow, fourth in the 800 meters, 1:52.81
Doherty, eighth in the 800, 1:57.09
