Multiple races means a race closer to home
George Cressman, a loyal reader and runner, sent me a well-argued and brief response to my post about the multiple Fourth of July runs. We were having technical difficulties, so he had trouble posting it as a comment. It’s worthy of an entry on its own. Thanks, George. And, here it is:
“I enjoy reading your running blogs on a regular basis and appreciate your coverage of the sport. Participation in races on July 4th INCREASED 65% from 639 last year to 1056 this year. This was due not only to an increase in the number of choices in the variety of races, but also to the locations of the runs. I view this as a GOOD thing rather than something bad, as your article insinuated. The races didn’t redistribute a limited number of registrants, but rather grew them significantly.”
