Olympian Kara Goucher outran Katie McGregor to take the USA Women’s 10-mile championship, one of the elite battles at the Twin Cities Marathon festival.

Goucher, bronze medalist at the 2007 world championships in the 10,000 meters, broke McGregor’s 2006 course record of 53 minutes, 51 seconds finishing in 53:16. McGregor, a five-time winner of the race, finished a distant second in 55:04.

“We both took fluids at the first station and I moved out to the side of the road, thinking she would come back, but she didn’t,” said Goucher who trains near Portland, Ore. “So I was like, ‘Well, now I’m here. I’m going to make my move three miles early.’”

Goucher and McGregor will face on again as part of the star-studded cast at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 2.

Josh Glaab of Superior, Colo. won the men’s Medtronic TC 10 in 50:29.

Fernando Cabada, the U.S. record holder at 25K, won the USA Men’s Marathon title in 2:16:32. The Boulder, Colo. resident pulled away from the lead pack of four after the 17-mile mark. Matt Gabrielson, a member of Team USA Minnesota, finished second in 2:17:38. Edwardo Torres of Boulder was third in 2:17:54.

Karl Gilpin, winner of the GO! St. Louis Marathon, finished 32nd in 2:28:54.

A shoutout to a pair of Big River Runners. Julie Lossos finished 21st among women, in 2:55:25. Jen Tesmer, fresh off a honeymoon cruise of the Caribbean, finished 77th in 3:19:12.
