Potosi high two-time Missouri cross country champ loses home in fire on day of victory
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Jacob Swearingen had no time to celebrate his second successive Class 3 Missouri Cross Country title. He received word just after winning that his family home has burned to the ground because of an electrical fire.
The family was in Jefferson City for the race, so no one was injured, but Jacob’s medals and ribbons are gone. The family also has no insurance, and a fund has been set up to help them in the name of Swearingen’s stepfather, Tim Busse.

Our colleagues at KSDK did a nice video story on the family home. Watch it here.
