Miles for Food will benefit Operation Food Search

The Scouting for Food bag that the Boy Scouts left on my front lawn “jogged” my memory that I had received word of a way for runners to help in a canned food drive.

Michael Linkogel and his associates at Shifting Consciousness have scheduled a fund-raiser for Operation Food Search this Sunday at Route 66 State Park. The event is a 66-mile relay.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and will continue until the runners finish or 5 p.m. Each runner has pledged $75 and will run anywhere from a 5K to a 10K to a half-marathon or full marathon. Big River Running Company has entered a 10-person team and has placed food collection bins in each of its stores. They hope to collect 1,250 cans, to deliver at the time of the relay.

So, it’s too late to run, but you can contribute in a number of ways.

  1. Show up to support the runners.
  2. Contribute cans at either Big River location.
  3. Make an online donation to the virtual food drive for Operation Food Search.
