Potosi runner, two-time Missouri champ Swearingen, qualifies for Nike Cross Nationals

Jacob Swearingen of Potosi High finished second in the regional of the Nike Cross Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, meaning he has qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals next month in Portland, Ore.
Swearingen finished in 15 minutes, 25.5 seconds, in the 5K, four seconds behind winner Steve Sulkin. The finish helps take away take away the sting of last week, when Swearingen’s family’s home burned down as Swearingen won his second successive Class 3 cross country championship for Potosi. Swearingen’s teammate, Nick Niggemann, finished 10th.
