Zac Freudenburg of the 180 Energy Runners was the second guy to cross the finish line in the 35th University City Memorial Day 10K, but he gets credit for the victory, winning in 33 minutes, 49 seconds. That’s because the first guy across the line was his 5-month-old son, Liam, whom Dad pushed through the 6.2-mile race.
Zac, winner of the GO! St. Louis Marathon in April, must be in pretty good shape, as he’s peaking (no pun intended) for the U.S. Mountain Running Championships next month.
Just to make the feat a bit harder, the Freudenburgs don’t seem to have made the stroller very aerodynamic. It’s pretty tricked out.
Other winners Monday:
- Katie Hauser was the 10K women’s winner with a time of 37:13.
- Dusty Lopez was the first across the line in the 5K
- Sarah Jarvis was the 5K women’s winner.

Amazing. And what a cute baby!
Great photo. With Zac’s expression and the infant cradle in the jog stroller it reminds me of running late for a 6 month pediatrician appointment.
Zac is AMAZING! Who said anything about baby Liam slowing him down? Zac is obviously the most devoted of fathers, and his dedication as a runner, an aspiring athlete is irrefutable. Look out World Mountain Championships!
Rock on, Zac and Liam!
Linda Ballard of the U. City Public Library passed along this tidbit: Zac said he would like to break the world record for running a marathon with a stroller.
I never know when he’s kidding.
I do know that he’s a fun runner to watch.
Next challenge….running with Liam on the mountain! No problem, Mommy could put plenty of layers on little Liam and Zac would still destroy the competition. What a great example for other parents of small children. Fantastic job Zac!
It’s hard to run with a stroller - keeping your hands up chest high is tougher than it looks. I tried it a few times before deciding it was not for me. Also, I always thought it might be a bit of a rough ride on the baby to do it full-out!
