East St. Louis native Dawn Harper accumulated more points than any U.S. woman in any discipline through the track and field events that are part of the Visa Gold series, meaning she earned $25,000. She capped the season-long title by winning the 100 meter hurdles at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Eugene Ore. Her time of 12.36 seconds edged Virginia Powell and Damu Cherry, but the trio will represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Berlin in August.

A shout out to Eldon’s Christian Cantwell, who won the shot put with a throw of 71 feet, 7 3/4 inches, besting Dan Taylor and Reese Hoffa, also Berlin bound.
