Ex-Mizzou runner Serena Burla finishes 7th in 10,000 at nationals

Former Missouri runner Serena Burla finished seventh Thursday in the 10,000 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.  Burla crossed the line in 32 minutes, 56.40 seconds, well off the track record set by winner Amy Begley, 31:22.69. Olympian Shalane Flanagan was second in  31:23.43.

Burla, who lives in St. Louis, had a baby about five months ago and finished second last month in the New York Mini 10K. She had the fourth fastest qualifying time in the field.
