Serena Burla, record holder in the GO! half-marathon, was the first American across the line in the New York Mini 10K, the oldest race for women only.
Burla finished second in 33 minutes, 4 seconds, a good 20 seconds behind winner Rose Kosgei of Kenya. She beat Catherine Ndereba, Olympic silver medalist and four-time winner of the Boston Marathon, who finished fourth.
Most remarkable part of her performance Sunday: She has a five-month-old at home in Ellisville.
Burla won the 2007 GO! half-marathon in 1:14:30, more than 6 minutes faster than any other female winner, as Serena Ramsey. Burla attended the University of Missouri and lived in Columbia but has moved to Ellisville.
