St. Louis area Olympians Dawn Harper, Christian Cantwell set for USA Track and Field Outdoor Nationals

East St. Louis’ Dawn Harper and Eldon, Mo. native Christian Cantwell return to Eugene, Ore. ,site of last year’s Olympic Trials, for the USA Track and Field Championships, Thursday through Sunday.
Harper went on to win a gold medal in Beijing in the 100 meter hurdles; Cantwell, a Missouri grad, took the silver in the shot put.
Other area atheltes also will be competing, including:
- Stephen Pifer, former Edwardsville High standout and Illinois cross country champion, in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters.
- Big River Running’s Dan Strackeljahn, in the 1,500 meters.
- Former Mizzou runner and state champ Tim Cornell, in the 1,500 meters.
- Shannon Leinert, a graduate of Eureka and three-time state champ, in the 800 meters.
- Serena Burla, former Mizzou runner and record-holder in the GO! half-marathon, in the 10,000 meters.
