St. Louisan Sarah Haskins continued her successful return to international professional triathlon by finishing fourth in Sunday in the Dextro Energy ITU World Championship Series races in Washington, D.C. Haskins, a graduate of Parkway South, finished in 2 hours, 1 minute, 27 seconds, about 90 seconds behind winner Emma Moffatt of Australia, who crossed the line in 1:59:55.

Haskins was the first out of the water after the 1.5 kilometer (.9-mile) swim and entered the bike loops (40k, or 25 miles total) with teammates Laura Bennett and Sarah Groff and five others. The group was caught by seven other riders, but Haskins and fellow American Mary Beth Ellis made a break with a little over a lap to go and earned a 30-second lead heading into the 10k (6.2-mile) run.

They were caught quickly by Australians Moffatt and Emma Snowsill and Daniela Ryf of Switzerland, who eventually finished 1,2,3.

Haskins underwent surgery to correct nerve problems in her right leg in February. The race in Washington was the second since returning to competition.

Always good to get running/triathlon news. Congrats to Sarah. She’s apparently a fast healer.

A bit of confusion in this article though. In the first paragraph text it says Emma Snowsill won. Then in the results list it has Emma Moffatt first.

My bad on the winner. I got my Australian Emmas confused. I’ve corrected the entry and appreciate the heads-up.
