Serena Burla sets PR, finishes 17th in world half-marathon championships

St. Louisan Serena Burla finished 17th, the second American, in the world half-marathon championships last weekend in Birmingham, England.
Burla, who competed at the University of Missouri, crossed the line Sunday in a personal best of 1 hour, 10 minutes, 55 seconds. Burla holds the women’s record for the GO! St. Louis half-marathon, 1:14:13. Burla gave birth in December to a son, Boyd, and has quite a year. She finished second in the New York Mini 10K and qualified for the U.S. Track and Field championships in the 10,000 meters.
The winner Sunday was Mary Jepkosgei Keitany in 1:06:36. The top American was Amy Yoder Begley, who finished 11th in 1:10:09.
