InBev mulls sale of Korean brewery

Anheuser-Busch InBev has apparently restarted the process of trying to sell a Korean brewery after the process stalled last year, the Financial Times is reporting. The company is trying to whittle away at the debt InBev took on to buy Anheuser-Busch. But as the FT points out, some of the pressure to throw assets overboard may have eased.

From the story:

InBev has restarted the sale process for its South Korean brewery after receiving interest from potential buyers for the business in the wake of its $52bn takeover of Anheuser-Busch.

InBev, the world’s largest brewer, has assigned JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank, its advisers on the Anheuser acquisition, to oversee a sale process for Oriental Brewery, people familiar with the matter said.

The company had decided that the Korean business was no longer considered core to its future strategy, but the divestment would only proceed if InBev received a sufficiently attractive offer, dealmakers said. …

InBev is also looking at the sale of a range of other assets, including the US entertainment and packaging businesses formerly owned by Anheuser.

But the company’s rights offering last month and the pricing of its $5bn bond issue last week will help it pay down debt incurred in the Anheuser deal, which removes some of the pressure to sell assets quickly.

I hope Brito and his bunch of arrogant Brazilians go bankrupt trying to pay off this debt. Maybe his head will be on the chopping block the same way that he put thousands of St Louisians on the block. Boycott Bud, it is the only way to show Brito that we don’t want him here.

I agree with all of the above comments! But, i will go further to predict that the new ABInBev will not last 10 years. If it lasts 5 I will be surprised. It will implode under it’s debt load, becuase the cash engine that was Anheuser-Busch is being dismantled.

Therefore I will treat the President with the respect that he deserves. Carlos Brito will henceforth be known simply as Burito. He has taken all of the good things that made up a great company, tried to roll it up in a debt tortilla, and tried to cram it down his throat. Good Luck Burito!

agree with former AB and another Former AB, and now lets just add another former AB employee..we need to get the message across to stop drinking an ABInbev product, advocates we are…this company is only getting worse… we all have a choice.., support your local brewery, MGD64 isn’t bad either… so everytime you are at the grocery store or the c-store etc, let people know how bad this company is and what they are doing is wrong to all their former employees!
get everyone to change….

Never was a big fan of their Lager beers. Amber Bock is about it. I did like the Dunkel Weisse Ale just came out this fall.

After this cuts knowing folks that are gone.

I WILL NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT. InBev go back to SA/Belgium.
