Anheuser-Busch InBev seeks buyers for Korean brewery

Bloomberg News is reporting here that Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s biggest brewer, is seeking as much as $2.5 billion for its South Korean unit and has asked potential buyers to submit bids this month. The news service based its report on two people “with knowledge of the matter.”

If A-B InBev gets its asking price, that could be important, because it would relieve quite a bit of pressure as the company tries to pay down short-term debt incurred in InBev’s purchase of Anheuser-Busch. From the story:

Offers for the Oriental Brewery unit may come in at $2 billion to $2.5 billion. … At that price, AB InBev may be able to repay almost all of the near-term debt stemming from the $52 billion merger that formed the company last year, uniting the biggest European and U.S. brewers.

“AB InBev has already taken crucial steps toward solving any short-term financing problems, and this sale would further improve that story,” Gerard Rijk, an analyst at ING, said by phone. He added that “$2.5 billion, even $2 billion, would be a fantastic price and much higher than expected.”

Let’s see, last week they announce that a Chinese brewery is for sale and now it’s a South Korean brewery. I would also summise that these breweries have distribution networks to serve the market places. So how does this fit in to the stated take over goal of expanding AB products globally? It won’t be long before HQ ops is gone from STL and there will be a question concerning the viability of the local brewery. How do you like them Global Apples? Oh I forgot that the Wall Street types have already concluded that globalization will make the US stronger. Everyone better be prepared for Lower Standards of Living.

I think what they ment was that globalization would be good for us. ( wall street type.) no one listens to them any more after greenspan sat infront of congress and said that everything he has believed in his whole career has been false…50 billion ponzi scam and they can only find less than a billion. wall streeters faking there death, scr$#w them I believe them just like everything that Brito said about the buyout.

Oh Carlos your comment to employees about the only negitive is coming from St.Louis..no where else… wrong, would not believe how california and New york ( not wall street types, but ones with true brains, not greed.) fell, was in both this week and boy if you pull this off over the next 5 years I will be suprised.

in the trenches, he made the comment in August when he was making his move at an interview I believe that it was in this paper when one of my co-workers showed it to me.and then that black monday when all of us that where keep went to the theater, hoffman said it would get worst before it gets better, everyone was talking as we left the theater about this comment and hoff’s comment. that is the only reason I remember this comment. well got to go, I am at the bread co. picking up lunch, dont want to use more than my 1 hr. alotted for lunch.

Yes - Britto made similar comments publicly as well. It was reported in the Post that Britto commented that the reported negative actions (push for petitions, request for legislation, etc.) were local to St. Louis only.
