Former Anheuser-Busch executive to lead UMSL’s International Business Institute
Former Anheuser-Busch executive Steve Burrows has been named director of the International Business Institute at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Most recently, Burrows, 57, was CEO and president of Anheuser-Busch International-Asia.
Burrows was a 30-year veteran of Anheuser-Busch. He spent the latter half of that heading up the company’s overseas development in places including the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, China and India.
Burrow, a native of Albany, N.Y., began working for Anheuser-Busch in 1979 as a sales representative, and worked his way up the sales and marketing ladder.
He was no slouch. By virtue of his strong work overseeing Anheuser-Busch’s operations in China, one analyst told Lager Heads that Burrows could be a strong candidate for the job of Anhesuer-Busch president once InBev took over. It didn’t happen - Burrows left A-B after the transaction. But you get the point.
Burrows has served on the advisory board of UMSL’s International Business Institute since 2000. The Institute supports the school’s international undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
“International business is and will remain an important area for business development for many companies,” Burrows said in a statement.
Keith Womer, dean of UMSL’s College of Business Administration at UMSL, called Burrows “an outstanding asset”for the program.
As Lager Heads‘ Irish ancestors might have said, “good on ya, Steve!”

Jeremiah McWilliams is a native Virginian who came to the Post-Dispatch in early 2007 to cover beer and other consumer products. He previously covered manufacturing for the Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Va. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University.
Will Burrows be teaching how to get bought out by a more savvy competitor while making millions in the process? If so, sign me up!
He holds an MBA from Lindenwood University in Missouri, USA. Cool!
Quick temper, uninspiring, political coniving jerk. Why in the word would the university hire someone like him? They’ll be sorry.
Burroughs primary contribution to A-B International was to do what AABII wanted, no questions asked. He was a political hack that would do anything and stab anyone in the back to keep his job. I’m sorry for UMSL–and he did NOTHING for China. All the heavy lifting was done by others way before he was sidelined out of the larger international stage and given Asia.
A self important has-been that made far more money that he deserved.
Those that cannot do, teach
If he worked for AB for that long I am sure he knows his stuff and can bring a lot to the students who are willing to listen.
A good guy who has a lot to offer.. did a lot for AB International. Many students would be lucky to learn from such an experienced leader.. Much luck, maybe I’ll take his class, might help with the new global AB
I must say having worked with him was a pleasure, a guy who would encourage and who looks at long term goals.. God Bless him!
