Newman vs. Sadler: A throw for the ages

Saint Louis Post-Dispatch

Tis nice to see Ryan Newman and Elliott Sadler next to each other on the front row Saturday night in the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Why?

Because it calls to mind the dust-up between Sadler and Newman back in 2001 at what was then known as Winston All-Star Race, in Charlotte, N.C. Newman spun out Sadler, who was a tad, shall me say, annoyed and wasn’t shy about showing his displeasure.

Sadler climbed out of his mangled car, waited for Newman to come around the track, then chucked his helmet at Newman’s vehicle. Ridiculous throw, and accurate, too, and one of the reasons NASCAR is cool.
