Classy Carl Edwards pays homage to NHRA’s Kalitta

Saint Louis Post-Dispatch

Carl Edwards returned to Victory Lane in the Nationwide Series with a win Saturday night at Milwaukee, but he skipped his usual post-victory backflip out of respect for NHRA driver Scott Kalitta, who died after his car exploded, then crashed Saturday afternoon in Englishtown, N.J.

Fans at the fabled Milwaukee Mile booed Edwards for not doing his trademark backflip, but they weren’t aware of his reasoning, which Edwards soon explained in his Victory Lane interview — that it wasn’t the right time or the proper thing to do after such a sobering day in motor sports.

Classy move by Edwards.
