Kenny Wallace info heading into Gateway race

Saint Louis Post-Dispatch

I got this update from Kenny Wallace’s PR people. …

U.S. Border Patrol Driver Kenny Wallace Makes Grand Homecoming This Weekend

For most of the Nationwide Series drivers and teams, it’s just another race weekend. But for U.S. Border Patrol driver and St. Louis native Kenny Wallace, it’s the race he eagerly awaits year after year: the Series’ annual stop at the Gateway Int’l Raceway.

It’s been a love-hate relationship for Wallace at the track. He’s accumulated four top-10 results at Gateway, but he noted that he’s put so much pressure on himself each time the Nationwide Series visits the track.

“Every year, I get myself too worked up about this race,” said Wallace. “There’s nothing more in my racing career I want to do than win Gateway.”

This time around, it’s a new attitude for Wallace. He’s going into Saturday night’s race relaxed and poised for success in his No. 28 U.S. Border Patrol Chevy.

“Being relaxed might be a better way to approach it,” said Wallace. “We’re going to show up to Gateway like it’s any other race. We want to get a top-15 finish this weekend - that’s the goal.”

And for the U.S. Border Patrol recruitment team, their goals are simple: to continue their recruitment program toward making 6,000 new hires in the next two years. Their mobile recruitment unit will be present outside the racetrack in the midway on Friday and Saturday as they continue with their recruiting charge.

Wallace and Team Border Patrol will get their first taste of the Gateway Int’l Raceway on Friday, when the Nationwide Series has two practice sessions. Qualifying kicks off Saturday at 5:05 p.m. (EDT) with coverage on ESPN2. They’ll also televise Saturday night’s Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250, starting at 9 p.m. (EDT)

U.S. Border Patrol/Jay Robinson Racing Team Notes

* This weekend, U.S. Border Patrol agents will be present at the race track as their recruiting mission continues. The Border Patrol mobile recruitment booth will be open on Friday (3 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and Saturday (12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.) during the race weekend.
* During the Gateway racing weekend, Jay Robinson Racing will host two fans through the NASCAR Nationwide Series “Our NASCAR” Fan Experience. Don Randolph and a guest of his choice will have the opportunity to view all of Saturday’s action up-close, in addition to meeting U.S. Border Patrol driver Kenny Wallace.
* Wallace has made nine starts in the Nationwide Series at Gateway, with four top-10 finishes to his credit. His best result is a sixth place (2001).
