Mixed day for Tony Stewart at Daytona

Tony Stewart won the Nationwide Series race Saturday at Daytona, holding off Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch … but the unfortunate crash in practice that took out both his and teammate Ryan Newman’s Sprint Cup cars left him a little sour.

Can you blame him? That’s the problem with drivers being car owners; it’s bad enough for a driver when a crash forces the overdriver to fix the damage; but it’s worse when you own the ride and see money pouring down the toilet through no fault of your own.

Stewart was driving behind Newman when Newman’s right rear tire blew, sending the car into a skid, collecting Stewart and taking out both of their cars. The collision will send them both to the back of the pack Sunday for the Daytona 500, and Stewart was livid, primarily at Goodyear, according to Yahoo!

Newman has wrecked two cars at Dayton, and Stewart one. That’s a lot of scratch out the window.

Methinks Stewart will channel his anger on barging from the back to the front of the peloton in Sunday’s race. He’ll have to be careful, tho, as handling seems to be sketchy with NASCAR’s new car as shown by the Bud Shootout last week and the twin Gatorade 150s on Thursday. There may be a lot of vehicle carnage for Stewart to steer clear of en route to the front of the pack.
