NHRA Pro qualifying is under way at Gateway
Even though it was spitting rain earlier at Gateway International in Madison, the first pro session round of the 13th annual O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals is underway.
The session _ Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle _ was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the PSMs are qualifying now _ about 50 minutes behind schedule.
Nearly 200 cars in the sportsman classes made qualifying runs earlier in the day, before the rain set in around 11:15 a.m. The wet weather eventually lifted and the NHRA Safety Safari had about 95 percent of the track dried when it started lightly raining again around 1:30 p.m.
The Safety Safari team quickly dried the track again allowing the competition eliminator class to finish its first of three qualifying sessions after a four-hour delay.
