NASCAR opts for double-file restarts
After the excitement and the success of the All-Star Race, NASCAR has decided to go with double-file restarts in the Sprint Cup Series, effective immediately.
What this means is that the cars on the lead lap will start at the front of the pack, with lapped cars out of the way at the pack. Previously, the lead-lap cars lined up in a single file on the outside lane, with the lapped traffic in a single file on the inside lane.
Under the new system, the leader has the option of selecting the inside or the outside lane, with the second place driver taking the other. The third-place car and other odd-place cars would be in the inside lane.
The new system is expected to provide better racing by keeping the lapped cars out of the way and allowing the leaders to race each other on restarts, rather than maneuver through lapped traffic as now is the case.

NASCAR needs to do something. I love racing, but most of their races are just too long to hold my interest.
