The United Midwestern Promoters SummerNationals late model series will continue its “Hell Tour” when it stops at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach Wednesday.
Several of the best late model drivers in the Midwest are scheduled to appear at Tri-City, including the top five drivers in the points standing _ Kevin Weaver, defending series champion Dennis Erb Jr., Randy Korte, Rodney Melvin and Jason Feger.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m., spectator gates at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m., qualifying at 7 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets at $20 for adults can be purchased at the track’s ticket office. Children 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $35.
The winner of the 40-lap feature will earn $6,000. Also on the racing card are the UMP modifieds and the UMP sportsman cars. The winner of the modified feature and the winner of the sportsman feature will each bank $700.
The SummerNationals is a one month-long, 27-race schedule which began on June 11 at Brownstown (Ill.) Speedway. The final race, with $10,000 going to the feature winner, will be July 11 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio.
The series has already made one stop in the Metro-East when Erb won the feature at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville on June 17. Erb was also the winner at Quad City Speedway on June 14. Other two-time winners this year have been Jeep Van Wormer (Brownstown and Tri-State Speedway) and Billy Moyer (Kankakee Motor Speedway and Clarksville Speedway). Both drivers are expected to appear at Tri-City.
Highland Speedway will be the venue when the SummerNationals appear at the Madison County Fairgrounds on July 1. The series had been originally scheduled to race on June 16 but that race was rained out.
The SummerNationals will make one final stop in the area on July 4 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely.
