ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Good evening from a sunny, hot and muggy Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach where the United Midwestern Promoters SummerNationals late models will compete for the $6,000 first-place prize in the 40-lap feature.

Thirty-four drivers will battle for 21 starting spots for the feature as the SummerNationals makes its ninth stop on the one-month long 27-race schedule.

Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark. was the fastest qualifier stopping the timer in 15.177 seconds over the three-eighths mile, high-banked track.

The top four finishers in the four heats, the top two from the B main and three provisionals will comprise the 21-car field.
