The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has completed both practice sessions Friday at Gateway International Raceway and Mike Skinner and Rick Crawford were the fastest during Friday’s two practice sessions. The trucks were practicing in preparation for Saturday’s Copart 200 which starts at 1:45 p.m.

Skinner, who won the pole here in 2007, toured the 1.25-mile oval in 33.608 seconds at 133.897 miles per hour during the series Happy Hour practice. Defending race champion and series points leader Ron Hornaday (2,753 points) has four wins the season and owns a 225-point leader over second place Matt Crafton (2,528). Hornaday was fifth in the final session and second in the afternoon session.

Earlier on Friday, Rick Crawford topped the practice charts with a lap of 33.895 seconds at 132.763 mph. Hornaday was second at 33.972/132.462.

Qualifying for the Copart 200 is at 10:05 a.m. Saturday.

One truck did smack the wall in Turn 1 during the first practice as driver David Starr, a past winner at Gateway (2004), wrecked his primary No. 24 Toyota Tundra truck when the throttle stuck open.

Shortly after the end of the Copart 200, the American Speed Association Gateway 100 will run with Ross Kenseth sitting on the pole. Kenseth is the son of Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth.

Brent Downey was the actual fast qualifier with a 33.842-second lap at 132.971 mph and Kenseth was 10th (34.067/132.093). But the ASA inverts up to the top five rows and Downey drew a No. 10 meaning he will start on the outside of the fifth row and Kenseth moves to the front.

I love Gateway Raceway. It aggravates me that our NASCAR races do not receive the coverage they deserve in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

I hope that place has to close its doors. When there’s a race there they have the State Police close parking at the Pilot, even for big trucks. I pay money to park my car their and when I get home from the road I cant even get access to my car. Tracks says its not their fault, cops say to bad move along or we’ll arrest you, and Pilot blames Police.
