Gateway International Raceway has picked up a second NASCAR Nationwide Series race for the 2010 season after Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced today it was ceasing all operations at its Memphis Motorsports Park facility.

The additional Nationwide race at Gateway will be held on Oct. 23, the same day the race was scheduled for Memphis. GIR is hosting a NASCAR doubleheader with the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide cars on July 16-17.

Memphis’ truck series race, scheduled for April 2, will be moved to Nashville Superspeedway track in Lebanon, Tenn. That track will also host a NASCAR doubleheader on April 2-3.

Memphis also had a race with the National Hot Rod Association scheduled for Aug. 20-22 and the NHRA decided this afternoon to not move the race to another venue. Instead, the sanctioning body will reduce its 24-race schedule to 23 next season.

That’s great for Gateway. I’m still looking for IRL to return there. I don’t understand how some of the other venues can get them and Gateway can’t.
