What a dominant day for Hendrick Motorsports at Martinsville.

Jimmie Johnson picked up his sixth career victory at the Virginia track, his fifth in the past six NASCAR Sprint Cup races. But Johnson’s win was the tip of the iceberg for Hendrick (which got its first Martinsville win 25 years ago, from Geoff Bodine).

All four Hendrick cars finished in the top eight Sunday, with Jeff Gordon fourth, Mork Mortin seventh and Dale Earnhardt Jr. eighth. (Mork Mortin is NASCAR-speak for Mark Martin).

In addition to those four, two more cars associated with Hendrick wound up in the top eight — the Stewart-Haas Racing cars of Tony Stewart (third) and Ryan Newman (sixth). So, 75 percent of the top eight cars had Hendrick horsepower and know-how. Amazing.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, bumped out of the way by Johnson on lap 485, finished second and steady Clint Bowyer of Richard Childress Racing was fifth to crash the Hendrick party.

Rounding out the top 10 were A.J. Allmendinger of Richard Petty Motorsports in ninth and Joplin, Mo.’s Jamie McMurray tenth to lead Roush Fenway’s performance. Other than McMurray, Roush had a tough day with the other four team entries lumped from 23rd to 28th — Matt Kenseth (23rd), Carl Edwards (26th), David Ragan (27th) and Greg Biffle (28th).
