Coleman Fastest In First Practice

Brad Coleman was the fastest in the first practice session Friday at Gateway International Raceway as the teams prepared for Saturday’s Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the 1.25-mile oval in Madison.

Coleman, who drives the No. 20 Rudy’s.com Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, toured GIR in 33.351 seconds at 134.928 miles per hour. He recorded the speed and time on his last of 23 laps.

Stephen Leicht was second quickest in his No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet owned by Richard Childress Racing stopping the clock in 33.640/133.769.

Of local interest, Justin Allgaier from Riverton, Ill., who drives the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger for Roger Penske Racing, was No. 4 on the speed chart at 33.705/133.511. Carl Edwards, in the No. 60 Save-a-Lot Ford for Jack Roush, was fifth (33.734/133.397).

Steve Wallace, son of Winston Cup Champion and former St. Louisan Rusty Wallace, was 12th (33.912/132.696), uncle Kenny Wallace was 20th (34.048/132.166) and Kenny’s middle brother Mike Wallace was 37th (34.396/130.829).
