Public thirst for blood is fixated on betrayed spouses
It appears “Politics as Usual” in the recent sex scandal revelation of New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer. Personally, the only shocking event is the voyeuristic behavior that the simple equation of “sex for money” invokes. The public thirst for blood sport has fixated on the behavior of the betrayed spouse…every nuance, glance or sigh duly noted…the criminal behavior of the former, self-righteous governor taking a backseat. Dollar signs has brought out the “businessman” in the media vying for every scoop and the prostitutes unabashedly identifying themselves to the ravenous American public, ready to cash in on interviews, and, no doubt, book deals and movies. The daily news conferences, speculations regarding future legal issues for the governor and the prostitution ring have created a circus that might even curl Donald Trump’s hair. “All’s fair in love and war”….sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.Amy Becherer

Huh?
Now that thousands of conservatives, both republican and democrat , have seen former NY Governor Spitzer wearing the standard Chinese-made American flag on his lapel as a symbol of patriotism while he quietly spent campaign funds on prostitution, will those pseudo patriots recognize that wearing the flag visibly is not necessarily equivalent to honesty?
Sincerely,
Manuel L. Ponte
#2 - I don’t think wearing an American Flag lapel pin has anything to do with Spitzer’s choice to cheat on his wife with a prostitute. Would you say the same of Bill Clinton with Monica?
Showing patriotism has nothing to do with Spitzer’s romp with a prostitute.
Just like if Mr. Ponte wore a lapel pin…it wouldn’t have anything to do with how much of a moron he is for stating irrelevant comparisons.
There is not anything unpatriotic about enjoying some sex with a hooker. Manuel, can I email you at your email address stated?
He was helping the economy by pumping some cash into it, just what it needed an injection of some cold, hard cash.
Obviously, Gaucho, you missed the point. GWB’s wearing an American-Flag Lapel pin is often duplicated by many other conservatives as a symbol of their patriotism. One democratic candidate, Obama, for example, does not wear one of those and he has often been criticized by pseudo patriotic conservatives for not doing it. In short, there are many Americans (conservative pseudo patriots primarily) who equate outward symbols (Even if manufactured in China) as proof that they are the true patriots. Their feeling reminds me of the parable of the PUBLICAN AND THE PHARISEE where, if one is to make a comparison with anyone - or with anything - perhaps one should read the parable once again and thereby learn what Jesus thought of outward appearances versus true commitment.
Sincerely,
Manuel L. Ponte

Dear Gaucho,
Re: Clinton-Monica - Which of the two wore the American lapel flag? Before, or After?
