We should make it difficult — impossible — for illegal immigrants to vote

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I disagree with the Post Dispatch (April 24, 2008) regarding immigrant registration or anybody registering to vote.  If they are U.S. citizens they should have every right.  As a U.S. citizen I have to qualify for everything, they should too.  Illegal immigrants have taken advantage of every loophole in national, state and local laws.  We (the govenment) have given and given and compromised, shown empathy, and just looked the other way regarding illegal immigrants.  I don’t sympathize with the old and with people who can’t track down their birth certificate, and people who have no identification; and can’t document their very existence.  It is not that hard to do.  It is ridiculous that we qualify unqualified people.

Agree with you sir. They also need to stop the dead people from voting too.

While I agree with the subject of your letter, preventing illegal voting, and am all for measures to ensure that only lawful votes are cast, the fight is taking place in the wrong place. Voter registration fraud and absentee voting seem much more easy to compromise than showing up at a polling station. Every election cycle we here reports of voter registration fraud conducted by ACORN. Blame is placed at the person filling out illegal forms, but ACORN is overlooked as running a criminal enterprise. Are we to believe that they catch and stop all the illegal registrations from voting? Only a fool or a democrat would believe that.
My solution is rather robust, and wont ever be addressed.
First, clear the voter rolls. All of them. No one is registered to vote.
Second, require everyone to re-register to vote and provide ID when doing so.
Third. Require all voters to present ID when voting. Absentee voters would have to submit a copy of their ID with their ballot.
Forth, include a picture on the voter ID so it can be used at polling stations.

Mr. Jordan of Moline Acres doesn’t seem to get it. Voting is a right that can’t be impeded or infringed. He says providing documents “can’t be that hard to do”, but how does he know that? Has he ever tried to obtain photo ID for a homeless American citizen (with FULL rights & privileges) but NO money, transportation, maybe illiterate, and who may not know any family? This is the kind of individual who is truly burdened by these requirements. And what are we accomplishing? Show me how many illegal immigrants have tried to vote, or successfully done so? It just doesn’t happen!

Show me how many homeless people vote please.

The fact is that illegals can and do easily get id to vote.

In California alone, large numbers of illegals voted in 2006. Even foreigners legally in the United States (but not citizens and therefore not eligible to vote) have been courted by the Democrats in California — and this same group (legally in the USA but not US citizens) have been voting.

Well, Gee, Mr. Jordan - I’d guess you are not elderly?
To paraphrase “someone” - only a fool or a Republican would believe you are of years.

I love how bloggers throw words out like they are facts. How many cases of in person voter fraud have there been in the past few years in Missouri? Under the current administration, the DoJ was pressured to aggressively pursue and prosecute cases of voter fraud. ACORN, like all other organizations involved in voter registration drives, is required by law to turn in all voter registration cards. If a card is filled out by a citizen, it must be turned in and it is the job of the Board of Elections to verify the application. Some organizations do have Quality Control Procedures in place.

Here are some links to FACTS for my good friend FRANK!

I would love to see some actual facts FRANK! Maybe some non-citizen whom were convicted of violating suffrage laws. That would be great.

You’re calling me a racist (again) when I never mentioned race.

I think you are trying to cover your own racism by labeling others.

Um, it is illegal for illegal imigrants to vote. If somehow they do vote, it’s called fraud and there are laws in place to take care of it if it is found out. My God, some of you make it sound like illegal immigrants can do whatever they want! As if they get all this help from welfare and such. NO THEY DON’T!!!! If they do, again, it’s called fraud! Stop it with the ‘Illegal immigrant’s get away with everything’ rhetoric. It gets old after a while
