County is giving to those already blessed with riches

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Democrat County Executive Charlie Dooley is asking the Democrat controlled County Council to approve $17.8 million in tax abatements for Edward Jones Company on new construction projects. This is in addition to the $37 million in tax abatements granted to Edward Jones earlier this month for property and sales taxes. (Post 4/30/08) The nearly $55 million in tax abatements are spread out over 10 to 14 years. According to the 2008 Book of Lists, published by the St. Louis Business Journal, the top five highest paid executives in the St. Louis area are partners at Edward Jones. The average compensation of these five executives is $8,235,000. It reminds me of an old joke: Why does a dog lick himself? Because he can.
