Everyone must obey the law, even elected officials

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Regarding Sunday’s story “Senate candidate ousted from ballot by unpaid taxes”: I do not understand why people who wish to lead parts of society feel slighted when the system punishes them for breaking the rules. It’s kind of like the arguments that are debated concerning illegal immigrants. Illegal means violating the law. Why some law makers don’t understand that the laws apply to all people who inhabit US territory  suggests that some people lack the intelligence or moral integrity necessary to hold public office. Senator Green is a decent man who works hard for all the people in his district and he relishes the opportunity to help everyone. If the Waltons desire to capture the feelings that a people’s champion experiences, they must play by the rules set up to protect the citizens who the Walton’s want to represent.
