It’s always the Palestinians’ fault

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Every time that the Post publishes a report that Israeli’s kill Palestinians women and children, someone sends a letter to the editor complaining that the report is unfair because it is really the Palestinians fault that they were killed. This convoluted logic would have us believe that the victims are responsible for the brutal retribution perpetrated by the Isreali’s. The long and tortured history of the conflict over Palestine does not need to be revisited although, most Americans are either completely uninformed of the facts or are avid supporters of Isreal. Unfortunately, the facts do not support our complete support of the Isreali’s. Approximately 20 per cent of the population of the state of Isreal are Arabs who are at best second class citizens suffering from discrimination that would make the Jim Crow laws of the old south seem tame. In 1948 many Arabs either fled or were driven from what is now Isreal and were forced to live in refugee camps which were and to this day are appaling. Under international law, the refugees are entitled to return to their homes, however, Isreal chooses to ignore international law as it applies to the Arabs. In 1967 Isreal captured the west bank and Gaza. For over forty years the Palestinians have lived in abject poverty under a brutal Isreali occupation and Americans are amazed that the Palestinians object to this situation and resort to ‘terror tactics’. No one seems to realize that in the 1940’s Jews in Palistine, as the members of the Stern gang and other groups committed acts of terrorism killing innocent British women and children because the end justifys the means. The bottom line is that terrorism on both sides will end when there is justice for the Palistinians and not until then. There is no real possibility of a two state solution, the only solution is one state where Jews and Arabs are equal partners.

Mr. Bowman,

If international law requires that refugees be allowed to return to their homes, why are we not up to our eyeballs in Osage Indians?

The letter components have been gleaned from the bowels of a dyspeptic sand flea. Pray tell, in your opinion, what has kept the evil Israelis from using their superior military force to totally wipe out the poor defenseless Palestinians? With the oil wealth in the Arab world, couldn’t a few cents every now and then be used to improve the lot of four generations of refugees?

Is this the same Bowman family that the Department of Children Services repeatedly investigated for dropping the children on their heads?

“Arabs who are at best second class citizens suffering from discrimination that would make the Jim Crow laws of the old south seem tame”

It would help if you actually did some research before making your ignorance public. Arab-Israeli citizens have full rights under the law. There are some minor exceptions where they are barred from certain sensitive military jobs, but that’s all. In fact, they have certain benefits - most are not subject to the draft.

May I suggest a stop by http://www.themiddleeastnow.com and come back with a report on what you’ve learned. What you will found out is that the Arab citizens of Israel enjoy full citizenship rights as any Israeli because….they are citizens of Israel. They get to vote and everything. They enjoy one of the highest standards of living for Muslims in all the Muslim world. The one difference, as stated above, is that they are not required to serve in the military but quite a few volunteer to do so and serve with distinction. I urge you to visit that web site and learn more.

Given the violent history over who has ruled those lands I don’t see why anyone is surprised our disgusted with what goes on over there. Peace will not exist as long as they CLING to their very destructive religions and keep the idea that god wants them to be the ones who live there.

Larry,

If you are as well informed as you claim, you are surely aware that the one-state solution you advocate is untenable.

First, the demographics of such a solution would mean the end of Israel. Arab birth rates and the demanded “right of return” would wipe out the Jewish state in short order.

Secondly, and most ominously, the Arabs don’t want accomodation with the Jews of Israel. They want the Jews driven into the sea and Israel wiped off the map. Palestinians routinely describe their Jewish neighbors as the “sons of pigs and dogs”, and Palestinian TV hosts children’s shows that teach bigotry and hatred of Jews. Internal Palestinian politics consists of civil war, murder, and assassination, which doesn’t bode well for any Palestinian official advocating accomodation with Israel.

You pointed out the Zionist struggle for a Jewish homeland in the 1940s, but forgot to supply some important background. During the 1930s and 40s, Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler was doing its best to annihilate European Jewry. For much of that time, the other world powers were unable or unwilling to confront these perpetrators of the Holocaust, which ulimately claimed 6,000,000 men, women, and children. During World War II, the Arab Grand Mufti of Jerusalem cooperated with the Nazis in furthering the persecution of Jews seeking shelter in Palestine. Since you are a man of such compassion for the Palestinians, maybe you could also shed a tear for the Jewish victims, and survivors, of such barbarity.

Today, Israel is a modern, Western-style democracy, established under the auspices of the United Nations. Upon its creation in 1948, it was the Arab countries surrounding Israel that attacked. By a miracle, the tiny Jewish state survived, the only functioning democracy in the Middle East(hopefully, Iraq will prove to be the second). It allows its Arab citizens rights protected by the rule of law. In the Palestinian-controlled areas, there is only the law of the AK-47. What type of justice do you think they would offer the Jews of Israel?

Mr Bowman, please give the following questions some thought before issuing another emetic apologia to some of the world’s worst inhabitants.

Are you aware that the Disputed Territories never belonged to the “Palestinians” and only came into Israeli possession as a result of the 1967 six day war in which Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon all massed forces at Israel’s border in order to “push the Jews into the sea”? The Arabs suffered a humiliating defeat and Israel took control of that land. Do you agree that if the Arabs don’t want to lose territory to Israel, then they shouldn’t start wars with them? Do you also agree that there is indeed justice that Israel, who as far back as 1948 has always sought peace with her far larger neighbors, should live in prosperity - making the desert bloom - while the residents of 19 adjacent Arab countries who are blessed with far more land as well as almost limitless oil wealth live in their own feces?

Did you know that the “Palestinians” could have had their own country in 1948 had they accepted the UN sponsored partition plan which gave Israel AND the Palestinians countries of their own (on land which, incidentely, Jews had lived on for thousands of years before Mohammed ever had his dream about virgins?) The Arabs, however, rejected UN offer and chose instead to wage war with the infant Israeli nation. The Arabs lost badly and have been whining about it ever since. Do you agree this is like a murderer who kills his parents and then asks for special treatment since he is now an orphan?
Can you tell us ANY Arab country that offers Jews the right to be citizens, vote, own property, businesses, be a part of the government, or have ANY of the rights that Israeli Arabs enjoy? How about ANY Arab country, which gives those same rights to Christians? How about to other Arabs? Wouldn’t it be fabulous to be a citizen of Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran, or Syria?
Since as many Jews (approximately 850,000) were kicked out of Arab countries as were Arabs who left present day Israel (despite being literally begged to stay), why should Arabs be permitted to return to Israel if Jews aren’t allowed to set foot in Arab countries? Can you explain why Arabs can worship freely in Israel but Jews would certainly be hung from street lamps after having their intestines devoured by an Arab mob if they so much as entered an Arab country?

Israel resettled and absorbed all of the Jews from Arab countries who wished to become Israelis. Have you ever considered why not a single Arab country has offered to resettle Arabs who were displaced from Israel, choosing instead to leaving them to rot for 60 years in squalid refugee camps? And why are those refugee camps still there? Could it be that the billions of dollars that the UN, EU, and Arab states funnel to the region goes to terrorist groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, El Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, and Hezbollah instead of to ordinary “Palestinians” Ever wonder how Yassir Arafat managed to accumulate his $300 million in wealth? Why aren’t these funds distributed for humanitarian use?

Did you know that the Arabs in the disputed territories (conquered by Israel in the 1967 war started by Arabs) and who are not Israelis already have two countries right now? These countries are called Egypt and Jordan.
If your complaint is about the security fence which Israel is finally building in the inaccurately named “disputed territories”, are you aware that it is being built solely to keep the “brave” Arab terrorists out so that they can no longer self detonate on busses, in night clubs, supermarkets, and pizzerias where they’ve kill scores of Jewish grandmothers and schoolchildren? It makes one wonder why anyone should feel the slightest bit of sympathy toward those poor, misunderstood Arabs who are so brave when they target unarmed civilians but even when they outnumber their opponents they get their sandy butts kicked all the way to Mecca when faced with Jewish soldiers? Why do Arab soldiers make the French look like super heroes? Why do those same “brave” freedom fighters hide behind the skirts of old women and children when they launch rocket and barrages from densely populated urban neighborhoods?

Can you please explain why you are so concerned about Arabs, who possess 99% of the land in this region and are in control of the world’s greatest natural resource, which literally flows out of the ground? Can’t their brother Muslims offer even a fraction of their surplus land and nature’s riches to the “Palestinians”? Or is it true that Arabs are willing to die right down to the last “Palestinian”?

Why do you not exhibit the same level of concern for say, people in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, Syria, and more recently Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand who are beheaded, subject to amputation, stoning, honor killing etc.? Where is the concern for women and young girls who are denied any semblance of basic civil rights, including the right not to be treated as property for the entertainment and abuse of their fathers, brothers, or husbands? What about the Muslims in Sudan and Egypt who are still enslaved, or the young girls whose genitalia are barbarically cut off? Where is the outrage over the oppression of Shiites by Sunnis, the gassing of the Kurds by Iraq, or the massacre of “Palestinians” by Jordan (Black September)? Why doesn’t this concern you?

Did you ever stop to wonder how much better off everyone in the region would be if Arabs simply stopped trying to massacre Jews and destroy Israel? What would happen if the Israelis gave up their weapons and disarmed? Do you think they live to see the next day? Of course not. Now consider what would happen if the Arabs completely disarmed. But then we all know the answer to that: The entire region would finally be AT PEACE! The consequence of that, however, since there wouldn’t be war to rile them up, is that the Arabs would be forced to look at their own repressive, pre-medieval societies. Why would they want to do that when there are Jews to kill?

Have you heard the phrase “People who define themselves primarily by what they hate, rather than who they love, are doomed to failure and misery”? Can you see the parallels to the Arabs, who are blessed with land and oil, but still gladly train their children to kill themselves in order to kill Jews? Have you heard Golda Meir’s words to the effect of “There will be peace when the Arabs love their children more than they hate ours”? Why do the Arabs hate so much?
